SOLAR POOL HEATING
Solar heating your pool
is the easiest and most cost effective use of solar energy today. The cost of a
solar pool heating system is usually less than 2-3 years of heating your pool
with gas or electricity. The biggest benefit, though, for most families
is that solar heating will typically double the comfortable swimming season
here in Southern Arizona. A typical pool heating system will keep your
pool from 80F to 90F, on average, from March/April through October/November
depending on weather conditions. Thousands of local pools are currently
heated with clean, reliable solar energy. SUNPOWER of
ARIZONA installs and services numerous different pool heating systems,
including Techno-Solis, Aquatherm, Gull, Helicol, Fafco, and
SunTech. We use both "rectangular" 4' x
12' black and terra cotta panels and 6.5' diameter "coil"
panels depending on a customer's needs. The simple
rule-of-thumb is we typically recommend rectangular panels for
pitched roof and rack installations where the panels can be plumbed to drain
and Gull SunCoil panels for "flat" territorial style roofs
and ground mount applications. Regardless of the panel we use, the
typical cost of a solar pool heating system (panels, controller, labor) is between
$3,000 to $6,000 before tax incentives and credits.
In situations where
solar pool heating is just not feasible, we also offer several industry leading
heat pump pool heaters. Next to solar, heat pumps are the most energy
efficient way to heat your pool. During our consultation with you we can
outline the viable options you have and the benefits of each.
SOLAR HOT WATER
A solar hot water system
is one way all Southern Arizona families can reduce conventional water heating
costs while helping the environment. While we install and service many
kinds of hot water systems, we've found SunEarth to be the most
effective and dependable solar water heating systems today. There are
numerous ways to implement a solar hot water system - and each has
its advantages - but overall we have found that active closed
loop designs to be the most efficient, cost effective, and reliable
systems. Your budget, site considerations, and how often it gets below
freezing at night in your area of Southern Arizona will dictate the specific
design we recommend. The typical cost of a residential solar hot water
heating system is $3,500 to $5,500 before tax credits and they can reduce your
water heating energy costs by 60% to 80% or more.
Where feasible, we also
believe that an "instant hot" water recirculation system in
conjunction with a solar hot water system is a great way to save energy AND
water. Grundfos is our preferred choice for “instant hot” systems since
they manufacture the most flexible system to retrofit existing homes that do
not have a hot water return loop. They have a patented valve that we
place at the furthest fixture(s) from the hot water tank. These valves
allow the cold water line to be used as a “virtual” hot water return line for
the hot water tap, enabling the “instant hot” feature. Given an average
household can save 10,000 to 20,000 gallons of water per year using one of
these systems, they make particularly good sense in our desert environment.
SOLAR ELECTRICITY
Solar, or Photovoltaic
(PV), generated electricity has become much more cost effective in recent
years. Currently there are also utility company incentives that can make
it even more attractive to install PV power particularly if you are "on
the grid". We would be happy to work with DIY'ers to design and
source a system that meets their needs or install the system for you. We
are a SHARP Solar Systems Division
Certified Installation Partner. The typical cost of a
residential solar electrical system is $7,000 to $8,000 per DC KW installed but
the final cost can reduced by up to 50% depending on utility and tax
incentives.

ENERGY EFFICIENT ROOF
COATINGS
SUNPOWER of ARIZONA is the only
solar energy contractor that is also licensed for applying energy efficient
exterior coatings. This means we can directly handle all aspects of a
normal solar system installation and ongoing roof maintenance.
